About

With a wink and a nod to the pirates of yore, SKULL & CO. adopts its iteration of the skull & bones design with rose-colored hindsight as emblematic of the free spirit and swashbuckling attitude of a storied time in the history of the world.

As noted in Wikipedia: The symbol is an ancient one, becoming widespread with the medieval Danse Macabre symbolism. From at least the 12th century, it has been used for military flags or insignia and as a warning of the ferocity of the unit displaying it. It became associated with piracy from the 14th century onwards, possibly even earlier.

The Vintage News tells us: … it is a globally popular symbol. Besides being used as a fashion template, it also symbolizes any form of resistance against authorities. It even became a symbol of a political party…

Scientific American spins it as:  The “pirate brand” has long been tied to the skull and crossbones—the Jolly Roger—as a symbol of terror on the high seas. A 2011 article in The New York Times hails the ominous design as a magnificent exercise in collective hybrid branding, noting that economics drove pirates to adopt a version of this particular symbol to facilitate their intent to plunder. It’s a fascinating discussion on the efficiency and power that good branding provides.

Richard Cassaro – Author, researcher & filmmaker informs us:  The Skull & Cross Bones is an ancient symbol with a powerful, hidden meaning…and we’re warned to “stay away.” But this is an intentional deception by the elite to hide the symbol’s true meaning. In fact, the Skull & Cross Bones is an ancient instrument used by sorcerers to gain spiritual power.  As with the lucky number 13, we have been tricked—by the elite families who own the biggest corporations and run the most heavily armed governments—out of understanding this symbol’s true meaning.  The great unknown secret behind the Skull & Cross Bones is that it is not a symbol of death, but of life. It was used by ancient priests and priestesses worldwide, from the Mayans in Mesoamerica to the Etruscans in Europe.

SKULL & CO. has developed its own version of this venerable symbol to reflect an attitude for a new generation of apparel and accessories.  Unexpected colorations, constructions and fabrications provide a new twist for this historical, iconic emblem.  The spirit of the pirate is re-imagined for the 21st Century..
